Three out of four women will be affected by their vaginal or urinary health at some point and about 5% will have recurrent problems, experiencing multiple issues each year. Needless to say, these can be frustrating issues for women of all ages – the itching, redness, irritation and discharge. Most of these uncomfortable moments are due to vaginal yeast overgrowth, caused by the yeast Candida albicans.
Candida is a yeast that normally lives in the vaginal tract in small numbers in relative harmony with the human body, but it can overgrow in response to imbalances in the vaginal tract. A number of factors can create an unbalanced situation and promote the overgrowth of yeast: poor personal hygiene, wearing tight clothing, taking antibiotics or other medications, stress, dietary factors, pregnancy, diabetes and more. These factors change the environment of the vaginal tract by altering its pH (acid-base balance) and by upsetting the balance of “good” bacteria in the vaginal region that help maintain peace. Beneficial bacteria, otherwise known as probiotics, can help keep Candida in check and support vaginal and urinary health.
The most abundant “good’ bacteria in the vaginal tract that help maintain a healthy environment that reduces overgrowth of yeast is Lactobacilli. By producing lactic acid, Lactobacilli maintain a pH that discourages the growth of Candida. In addition, some strains produce hydrogen peroxide, another substance that helps prevent Candida overgrowth. These are bacteria you want to have around if you’re prone to these feminine nuisances.
The NAS Strain of Lactobacillus and Vaginal Health
Natren’s strain of Lactobacillus called ‘Lactobacillus acidophilus, NAS strain, shows particular promise for supporting vaginal and urinary health. One study showed that L. acidophilus, NAS strain creates a “friendlier” vaginal environment that discourages the overgrowth of yeast. The NAS strain has also been researched by the University of California at Davis and Yale Nursing School with encouraging results.
Megadophilus: The Natural Solution for Bacterial Control
Megadophilus contains the NAS strain of Lactobacillus, a strain that produces natural antimicrobial substances that help keep Candida yeast and other hostile bacteria like H. pylori in check. Plus, this gut-friendly bacterial strain supports healthy immunity by its effect on the 70% plus portion of your immune system that resides in your gut. Megadophilus works naturally to support your health!
